Widening the Circle of Hospitality - Since 2003, we have hosted over 30 House Concerts, with up to 60 people attending each time, at our home in Hermitage, TN. Providing this service and supporting this diverse group of musicians and artists for concerts and jam sessions has brought us great joy and new friendships as we have built community through the unifying magic of music. With the Circles of Harmony collaboration we move into a new evolution of this work/ play. We bring our firsthand experience and seek to serve as agent between musicians and homeowner/hosts and to spread this special community development in the world.

The Circles of Harmony Salon will debut at Two Rivers Mansion on Wednesday, February 14 from 7 – 8 PM. This program is a cooperative effort between Metro Parks, Friends of Two Rivers Mansion, and Roy “Futureman” Wooten. Music will be performed by Futureman’s Black Mozart Ensemble. Admission is $10 per person, payable at the door. A second Salon is scheduled for February 28 from 7 – 8 PM. Both Salons are designed to complement Nashville-area Black History Month presentations.

The February 14th program will focus on the life and music of The Black Mozart: Joseph Boulogne de Saint-George. This 18th century Maestro and swordsman made contributions that revolutionized the world of musical creation. Saint-George used his abilities to find fame and fortune, yet, as the son of a slave, remained an outsider. He fought against racism all his life, and can serve as a powerful hero for all of us as we struggle against the racism and divisiveness of today. The February 28th program will again feature the music of Saint-George, but will be expanded with music composed by Roy “Futureman” Wooten in dedication to Saint-George.

Futureman’s Black Mozart Ensemble is composed of young violinists and cellists under the direction of Wooten. The music is complemented by the addition of a rapper, local hip-hop artists, and narrators/actors when appropriate. Performances are followed by a discussion, and audience participation is welcomed. Refreshments will be served compliments of the Friends of Two Rivers Mansion.

The “salons” in Paris in the 18th Century were home places where people came together for music and philosophical discussions. With this collaboration, we are again creating “circles of harmony” where people can gather with great music, art, and catalytic conversations on the animating principles of our Union—liberty, justice, equality. We come together from diverse backgrounds to share our dreams, ignite our imaginations, and unite our hearts in creating a better state, a better country, and a better world.

Information about the Salons can be obtained by calling Two Rivers Mansion at 885-1112.
